In the lyrics of “One Day More” from Les Misérables, Jean Valjean sings this season’s motto: “Another Day, Another Destiny”. Valjean has experienced extensive hardship throughout his life and sings these words with many emotions that can be interpreted many different ways: is he feeling a looming sense of dread for what is to come? Or is it hope that he sings of, believing that one day he will escape his hardship and live a new and better life?

 

All of our shows this season explore these questions of destiny and what is to come. In Frozen Jr., Elsa believes her fate to be a life of isolation, but Anna helps her forge a path to freedom. In Big Fish, Edward Bloom already knows his path, but he uses his life stories to influence his son Will toward a brighter future. In Radium Girls, the women working at the factory were dealt a terrible hand but chose to live the rest of their lives fighting for justice.
